The Lingers Fall Out Of The Peter Bentley Cup Loxwood and 2 Smoking Barrells

Loxwood were soon on the front foot as I diagonal pass into the right channel was played and the lingers were turned, the ball was cut back but Olly Moore was there to make a comfortable save and the lingers then scrambled the ball out of danger.

Few minutes later the Lingers started pressing a bit higher bit still letting Loxwood have the ball at the back. Loxwood tried to play in behind the Lingers defence but were caught offside a few times as the Lingers defensive line pushed a high line. The Lingers started to grow into the game, with our two centre midfielders getting on the ball, Jake Horn and Matthew Gates spraying passes into the wide areas for the wingers to have a run at the full backs and Harry Middleton was working around Sam Bell giving him some support at the front.
Loxwood played more diagonal passes where the lingers got caught out but again Olly Moore was there to save the day for Lingfield and keep the score at 0-0 with 4 or 5 important saves. Lingfield hit Loxwood on the counter attack where Sam Bell got in behind only for the ball to take an unfortunate bobble and bounce of his shin and hit the crossbar. This gave confidence to the Lingfield lads as they pushed higher and higher up the field with Matt Burroughs and Kieran Curtis taking on the Loxwood full backs. It was goalless at the break.

The 2nd half started how the 1st half started, Lingfield sitting deep while Loxwood kept the ball, Loxwood were getting into dangerous areas but wasn't really testing the Lingfield keeper with shots going over and being blocked by Marc McEvily and Charlie Dodd which at that point a corner gets crossed into the Lingfield box where Olly Moore gathered the ball but the Loxwood player gave him a slight push but as much as the lingers protested, no foul on the keeper and the ball ended up in the net. Lingfield began to become more attacking with Jake Horn collecting the ball from deep and finding passes into the wide areas which he did very well. The danger was down the right hand side with Connor Leech over lapping Matthew Burroughs which the Loxwood's defence couldn't handle.

They got the ball into the box for Sam Bell only to aim at Harry made way for Joe Kensett who came on and played the holding role which allowed the other 2 midfield players to push on.

In the latter stages of the game Lingfield were creating some good chances with Sam Bell hitting the crossbar again and then missing a shot from close range. But he kept trying to make something happen.

Jake Horn again spreading the play and getting the ball into the wide areas was starting to push on more to try and get something for his team with Mat Gates doing the same but unfortunately Loxwood managed to see out the win. Great support from the Lingfield fans and a lot of positives the lads can take from that game
