However we began to press them and after some good attacks down the flanks we got our first goal of the afternoon, scored by Harry Sintim. Shortly after an injury forced Cray to make a substitution, taking off Felix Ogeah-Andrews for Alex Chambers, and they slowly began getting into the game.
After lots of end to end play and a few good chances there was a heated discussion between Harry Sintim and the manager, leading to Sintim being subbed off in favour of Curtly Shallow. After more chances for both sides as well as some rough challenges we doubled our lead through Brennan Kiernan, finishing well into the top left corner.
We started the second half as we left the first, looking strong and dangerous. However it would be Cray who struck first, countering down the flank and crossing for Jones to head in. Hoping to not repeat the second half slip ups we’ve seen in recent games the team rallied together and despite the second half being largely end to end we seemed confident both defensively and offensively.
Our attacking play improved as the game progressed and after a period of pressure from Cray we came forward and scored for the third time, Joel O’Hara heading home a Matthew Warren cross at the near post. Following the goal Odane Smith replaced Abraham Udofia and Cray managed to hit the crossbar via a free kick, but the game seemed very much in our hands.
There was a scare towards the end as Cray Valley chested in a cross to bring the score to 3-2 but we still seemed in control and as the final whistle blew we celebrated a well-deserved victory. Hopefully we can replicate this form against both Erith Town Tuesday and Epsom and Ewell in the FA Vase on Saturday.
