We started extremely strong, having the majority of the chances and pressing well. The opening 25 minutes were a fantastic team performance, with Holmesdale taking almost half an hour to even register a shot. However possession stats don’t win you the game a Holmesdale soon proved, breaking through our back line and putting away only their 2nd shot from open play.
Despite the setback it didn’t take long for us to respond, with Joel Amos escaping the attention of the left back to race down the wing and finishing neatly to level the scores. A similar effort came close moments later but we went into the dressing rooms with the scores tied.
Holmesdale came out a very different side in the second half and when they took back the lead just minutes after the restart it seemed like it would be a very long 45 minutes indeed. However we got ourselves back in the game when Charlie Goodlake’s rebounded effort found its way into the back of the net after about an hour of play.
Just when it looked like we might be headed for our first draw of the season we struck again, with Joel Amos again running through and finishing to win us the game and grab the three points. It was a solid team performance and one everyone can be proud of.
