It was hardly the most convincing start for us as Deal’s Mitch Knight scored before many punters had even arrived. Despite conceding early though we seemed happy going forwards, applying plenty of pressure and dominating the match similarly to our first half performance against Holmesdale. However our difficulty finishing was worrying and when Alfie Dean used his hand to clear the ball off the line and was sent for an early shower it didn’t bode well for us.
Visions of Fernando Muslera saving Asamoah Gyan’s penalty after Luis Suarez’s similar handball at the World Cup gave us hope but unfortunately Ryan Philpott put the ball in the bottom right corner to double Deal’s lead. Oddly enough we then continued to dominate the game, just seemingly unable to grab a goal. Lewis Lockyer did well in goal to stop any more of Deal’s counterattacks.
Half time saw Tay Ajayi be replaced by Joel Amos, who’s two goal haul at Holmesdale gave us hope for some more goals. Although he didn’t score he did make an instant impact, knocking the ball across the face of the goal for Adam Kendric to tap in. Buoyed by the goal we went looking for an equaliser, but Deal had other ideas.
Two quickfire goals from Knight and Philpott put us 4-1 down, and Conor Coyne’s effort left us with too much to do and handed Deal the points for the day. It was an exceedingly strong performance in places and if we can carry these strong elements into our next game then we can do well.
