The match started strongly for the home side as barely ten minutes in we won a penalty from a corner, that was duly converted by KerranBoylan. Buoyed by this the boys pushed more, pressing well and resisting the away side,s counterattacks. Five minutes from the end of the first half the pressure was rewarded as Kerran Boylan nodded in his second goal of the night to put us 2-0 up going into the break.
The strong Lingers performance was maintained after the restart asConnor Leech made a powerful run inside, firing his effort at the keeper before knocking the rebound to the back post for Stephen Smith to poke home. Barely three minutes later Connor Leech had another assist as he crossed for Matthew Burroughs to control and tuck the ball into the far right corner.
Unfortunately for an otherwise great Lingfield defense, the clean sheet was eventually lost in the eightieth minute as Crawley Down countered and finished tidily from a one-on-one. kerran Boylan couldn't quite manage to grab his hattrick as he managed to put a late penalty wide but otherwise it was a great performance from the Lingers.
It was sadly also my last match as match reporter here at Lingfield, thank you to all the fans, staff and players (apologies if I've ever got your name wrong!) for making me feel so welcome and I was overjoyed to see my two years here end with a win, something I might've struggled to believe when I first started! I've had a great time, hopefully people have enjoyed reading my reports as much as I've enjoyed writing them, and I will hopefully be back at The Lair soon.
