A very mixed feel to the start of the season so far, and with such an uncertain start, the return to the lair has come at an opportune moment, a few in a row, and a big chance to get the ball rolling in the bid for promotion. We welcome AFC Varndeanians.
Lingfield got he game underway, and asserted instant pressure with a lot of ball retention and territorial advantage, knocking the ball about very well and began to open the AFC's back line, and within the first 10 minutes it was 1-0, a pure move down the right, link up play on point, and a reverse square ball from Sammy Clements to Rich Wetton to calmly slide home. The Lingers continued to push creating chances left right and centre, AFC didn't have any real answers, however the game stayed 1-0 for a prolonged spell. Lingfield managed to find a second through a left sided corner from Conor Wilford, met by Scott 'Twig' Johnson in the middle of the 6yard box unmarked, unchallenged, 2-0. The game was comfortable for Lingfield however 2-0 can be a dangerous score, and when Rich Wetton broke through from a long Jake Horn ball, the oncoming GK to stop Wetton but only to fall to the late Nick Dembele to pass into an open net just before the break, 3-0 HT.
No complacency the words of management, and there was no such thing as Lingfield took control again, possession, and chances. It was 4-0 on the hour as a central ball to Sammy Clements with loads of room, his low shot could only be spilt to the oncoming Rich Wetton, his 2nd of the game. A couple half chances at best for AFC that with Olly Moore's ability, was easy pickings for the clean sheet. It was 5-0 from a Rich Wetton throw-in that found its way into the net certainly via a touch from the GK, but claimed by Scott 'Twig' Johnson having touched it last. A cut throat attitude from Lingfield tonight was polished off by Rich Wetton for his hat-trick and 10th of the season, as a well built move from bottom right to top left of the pitch as Alec Tuppen pushed high and crossed the ball on a plate to the 6yard box for Wetton to head home, 6-0 FT.
First home game a success and what should be the start platform for the season, plenty of positives to pick from, I think the ability to keep the ball and patience throughout the best of the lot.
To add, we as a club would like to thank Mike Moore and DEphoto.TV for their video coverage support, highlight real and providing quite possibly the best non-league media team across the U.K., a massive thanks. Go to the website for management interviews and highlights of games.
