Frst things first again was the pitch, borderline playable throughout, all players slipping over. Each to everyone’s credit, we all rolled up our sleeves and got on with it. We saw a straight swap for Twiggy Johnston as he went of swanning away to have his feet up for a couple games; after his superb 0 clean sheets since Graves’s absence. We welcomed back the skip, into the heart of defence. Also a welcome back to our main man who sticks the ball in the net, Wetton was on the bench.
We saw Seaford sit in knowing how we like to play and move the ball. To true Lingfield fashion, it wouldn’t be us playing if we didn’t give the first goal of the game, a Bakhit backpass went under Moore’s foot and straight into the empty net, 1-0. Seaford protected their goal with their lives all half and saw it through. New game plan, take the pitch out of the equation, on cake Wetton, and direct we went. Wide crosse and diagonal passes. Who else to pull is level? Individual brilliance from Wetton freed himself space and lashed home from the edge of the box, 1-1. Seaford didn’t really know whether to come out and try get ahead again or protect the point. In their indecision, we took it from them, Wilford diagonal was made profitable from Dembele to bring down cut inside and slide home, 1-2. Seaford change of shape, 4-4-2, so we tinkered back into a 4 at the back to prevent the wide areas. The game was seen through quite comfortably, a valiant effort from a side that made it difficult in stages, never really looked like getting a shot away at our goal, but a test nevertheless.
Back to back wins for the Lingers now, and we return to the Lair next week to Billingshurst, who we owe one. With Wick getting bumped for 5 at home to Bexhill, we go 5 clear in 3rd, with both Wick and Bexhill to come to the Lair. A professional job done in the end, and again may prove vital in our push to the end of the season. Until then, be seeing you.
