This time, a short trip to our neighbours in Oakwood.
On a cold Tuesday evening, we took a strong squad to Tinsley Lane. Returning were Bakhit and Johnston from holidays. Starting the evening we came into the game on the back of 5 consecutive games where we’d concede the first goal, however, hadn’t been beaten; and this time it was no different. Inside the first 15 minutes, maybe a breakdown in communication, saw Moore on the edge of his box. Not dealt with properly, and Oakwood tucked away easily for the advantage. 1-0. Lingfield were still in the ascendancy with possession and the creating of chances. Wetton had the best of the lot inside 6 yards. Oakwood held out the half and went into the break certainly the happier.
Lingfield have been in this position more times than they can count, and never looked flustered by the situation. Starting to dictate again and carve chances open. It was levelled on the hour, work down the right got to Wetton with a cutback, and his drive across goal poked home by Ransome, 1-1. A huge shift in momentum after some good defensive work from Oakwood. Dembele on for Ransome. His impact made known straight away with a warning sighter. He did end up giving Lingfield the lead within 10minutes of coming on; driving down the left-hand side, too much pace and power for the defensive line to keep up and smashed home. 1-2. An awkward scoreline for Lingfield to protect but was relatively comfortable in holding out possession and not falling deeper and deeper. The game was sealed late on, Horn taking the ball off the centre-half who appeared to have pulled up with some sort of hamstring strain or pull. His cross to Clements was tucked away to complete a professional job and performance done. 1-3 FT. Composure as well as character shown on the night with extra quality to take all 3 points.
I’ve been informed that Olly Moore played his 20th consecutive league game without defeat tonight. It was also his 50th training session he’s missed. Good Work O! Another fact to note, our MoM tonight David Heaton has now started 12 games this season and is yet to be on the losing side. We take on Bexhill on Saturday at the Lair! One of our closer challengers we are hoping to extend our gap from 4th. We now sit on 52 points, 2 games in hand and 7 points above of Ringmer; and 8 points above Wick having played a game more. An enviable position to be in as we come inside the last 10 games of the season. Up the Lingers
