First fixtures for the U18s and Lingfield 2 alongside First Team and U23 action

Fixtures for the First Team have been coming at a rate of twice a week and after tomorrow's trip to Horsham YM, they will have a midweek break in preparation for our trip to Knaphill in the FA Vase Second Qualifying Round next Saturday. Can the current side emulate our run to the Third Round Proper in the 2023-24 competition - and make history by going a round further? That team's record of playing five matches will remain intact as we were exempt from the opening round. Having played a blinder on Wednesday evening, who knows?

The U23s won in one of the best ways possible at Horsham YM last night by pinching the winner at the death. That puts them back on track ahead of hosting Loxwood at Whyteleafe on Friday. Our U18s were due to play Westside this evening but the fixture has been postponed possibly due to other demands on what seems to be a very busy pitch at Cobham FC. The U18s will visit twice as Met Police use it for their side as well. Their next game is on Tuesday evening at Horley Town where we played twice last year - winning a cup tie after losing in the league. If only we could have got past Hastings United in the FA Youth Cup we would have been there in the next round.

The big news is the return to matches other than our youth teams in Lingfield itself. As we mourn the loss of our President Pam Tomsett, a member of a family integral to the history of the club from its foundation, it is something of a step back as Lingfield 2 start their league season at Talbot Road. When the council took the ground off Lingfield High Street back to build a school, the club moved to Talbot Road in 1938 and remained until 1958 when they moved to Godstone Road. Tomorrow's Mid Sussex League Division 5 North is against Oxted & District U23s. However the next fixture will be at Godstone Road as Horley AFC Reserves come to play.
