Friday evening football

The first of our Friday evening matches at our temporary home at Whyteleafe

We were able to find a free Saturday in December to play our fixture against Little Common but had to play a 'home' game at Bexhill United which ended well with a 1-0 win. This Friday we entertain Midhurst & Easebourne at Church Road, Whyteleafe with an 8pm kick off.

The weather won at the weekend with just three matches surviving for SCFL teams as our big six pointer at Shoreham was postponed. However, the sole Premier Division match to be played saw bottom club Little Common visit Roffey – or rather the home of Three Bridges as Roffey were determined to keep their good run of form going so moved the fixture. In a tight game Roffey won by the only goal and did us a favour by keeping Little Common nine points behind us and with now only one game in hand. It should have been no games in hand as Little Common were due to host Crawley Down Gatwick last night but unfortunately suffered a burst pipe in their club house. We hope they can repair any damage with minimal costs and be ready to host Horsham YMCA on Saturday.

A match that does have relevance to us was played last night as Shoreham hosted Pagham. The teams are together in the form table and so it was on the pitch as it ended 1-1. Probably the best result for us as although even if we win on Friday we will not go above Shoreham in the table because of our goal difference just a point a piece keeps both teams in touch with us. Shoreham face a Peacehaven side ten places higher in the table on Saturday while Pagham do not have a match.

Saltdean United do not play this weekend but host Newhaven on Tuesday before another six pointer as we visit them a week on Saturday hoping to keep a nice gap between us. Of the other teams around us, Wick lost to table toppers Hassocks last night and then host second placed Roffey on Saturday. Roffey are now top of the form table while Wick are on a poor run and have slipped to nineteenth in form. There is a close battle developing in the table from Wick in thirteenth down to Shoreham in seventh and just three points separate the five clubs. One of them, Loxwood do not play this weekend but will be visiting Shoreham the following weekend. Our task is to join this group as we are currently three point behind them. An interesting couple of weeks lie ahead of all these teams.
