First up were the new Lingfield 2 side in the Mid Sussex League as they not only looked to follow up their 10-0 opening game win at Talbot Road but make a long awaited return to Godstone Road against Horley AFC Reserves. The lads duly won 7-1 in front of a great crowd of 100 plus and there is a short video in the media section.
The First Team on a nice winning run went over to the west of Surrey to take on a side of similar level in the FA Vase in the form of Knaphill. A good performance and the only goal of a scrappy game took the club through to the First Round Proper and a home tie on 10 October against Chipstead.
The U18s went to Tooting & Mitcham's ground to play Balham in their second league game, looking to put a loss at Horley Town behind them. Never behind in the match, the young Lingers won 3-1 to go fifth in the table.
Last night the U23s travelled to the far reaches of eastern Surrey to play an Alfold side that had been a bit of a bogey side, kind of like their First Team used to be - play really well against them and get mugged for the points at the end. This time it was a great performance that kept them at arms length while scoring twice in each half to win 4-0 to go second in the table. We have a game in hand over leaders Broadbridge Heath which is actually last week's abandoned match versus Loxwood which is under FA investigation that is likely to see us awarded the points to go a point clear at the top.
There should have been another outing for the First Team on Wednesday evening but our opposition Midhurst & Easebourne were thrown into turmoil on Monday by the resignation of their manager and departure of players leaving them unable to field a team. The three points for this game will take us into third in the table.
Another round of matches kicks off tomorrow at 2pm at Godstone Road as Lingfield 2 host Eastbourne Albion of Division 5 South in the Tester Challenge Cup for clubs in Divisions 4 and 5 of the Mid Sussex League. Next Saturday they are in cup action again at Godstone Road hosting Hurstpierpoint III of Division 5 Central in the Brian Hall Cup for all Division 5 clubs.
An hour later at the Whyteleafe Ground our First Team will play Seaford Town looking to make up for a poor record of three games, one draw away in the league and two home defeats in FA Vase and league last season. They will be looking to keep the momentum going as soon we will face a tester against Eastbourne United.
It is on the road week for our U18s and U23s on Thursday evening. The U18s face a tough trip to the Wibbandune Sports Ground off the A3 to take on Kingstonian, last season's league winners. The U23s head south to Hassocks who are mid table at the moment and where we came away with a win last season.
So leave all the TV football and VAR behind to come along and watch our teams in action.
