SIMON FUNNELL LEAVES EAST GRINSTEAD TOWN

SIMON FUNNELL LEAVES EAST GRINSTEAD TOWN

Lingfield FC Admin5 Nov 2014 - 18:32

East Grinstead Town can confirm that first team manager Simon Funnell has left his position by mutual consent.

Simon took over in October 2011 and last season led the Wasps to second place in the Sussex County League – the best finish in the club’s history – and promotion to the Ryman League.

This season, Simon has worked tirelessly to try and establish the club at this level.
But we find ourselves in the bottom three and feel a change of manager will give the club the best opportunity to remain at a level it has worked hard on and off the field to reach and needs to remain at to ensure the continued growth and development of the club.

Chairman Richard Tramontin said: “The committee spoke at great length with Simon before reaching this decision which was extremely tough to make because Simon has been the most successful manager in our history and you won’t find anyone who works as hard as he does.
“But he recognises, like us, the importance of doing all we can to remain in the Ryman League and we feel a change of manager at this stage of the season will give us every opportunity to do that.”
Tony Beckingham, who was in charge between February 2010-October 2011, has agreed to return to the GAC Stadium to take over as manager on an interim basis.

Richard Tramontin added: “Tony knows the club well and we’re delighted he has agreed to come back. He is very experienced, has a wealth of contacts at all levels of the game and will be looking to utilise these to try and keep the club in the Ryman League. We’re fortunate to be able to call on someone of his experience and we wish him every success.”
