The First Team have just four matches to go this season – two at home and two away. We start with our final home game on a Saturday afternoon – and possibly a sunny one too – with the visit of Little Common. The lads will be looking to avenge the added time defeat of our first visit to their ground since they returned from sharing with Eastbourne United. Our recent run of defeats has seen Little Common sneak past us in the table but a win tomorrow would see us overtake them and lead by a point with a game in hand. Both teams are in action on Tuesday evening with Little Common hosting a Crowborough Athletic side fighting for a play-off place.
On Tuesday evening we have a trip to bottom club AFC Uckfield – a phrase that you might have heard a few times before as this is a fourth and hopefully successful attempt to play this game. Currently, AFC Uckfield still have a chance of survival and host a Midhurst & Easebourne side in tenth place on Saturday but with just a point from their last five games, the same as Uckfield, who can tell what the situation will be like. Relegation rivals Saltdean United host play-off chasing Hassocks on Saturday.
We have a Saturday off before we host our neighbours Crawley Down Gatwick which will allow us to enjoy our end of season party. With the year so far, incredibly it was not a waterlogged pitch that postponed this match but a power failure at the all-weather pitch at Horsham FC. On Tuesday 23 April we will try to do a double over our neighbours having come away with a one goal win on a blustery evening just after Christmas. We had hopes of finishing above them at that point but they have found some form and gone above us, and with games in hand, out of reach.
The final game is at Eastbourne United on Saturday 27 April and it is The Lingers looking to gain revenge for being done right at the end of match we had been leading for so long. A couple of wins from our last fixtures could see us finish as high as eleventh in the table.
Our U23 Team still have two home games to play starting with a visit from Broadbridge Heath on Thursday 18 April. So, this is a chance to see our young players in action on what might be a pleasant evening to grab a beer and see two good teams in action. The match at Broadbridge Heath was an excellent game with not much between the sides as we lost 1-3.
The withdrawal of Redhill and St Francis Rangers has moved us up to second in the table behind Broadbridge Heath but they, and the teams below us, still have a number of games in hand over us. There is one final match hosting Roffey to be arranged but they have quite a backlog to clear and at the moment finding a date is proving difficult as they have fixtures right up to 8 May!!
