Tomorrow night, Friday, our U18 team will play their first home game of the season at Whyteleafe at 8pm. It is the start of run of home games until the end of the year bar a cup game at Horley Town.
It has been a hard start to the season for our young Lingers who are without a point so far. I can attest that they are close from the two games I have attended. Away at Horley Town, a slow start to the game saw them concede two goals. Invigorated by a half time team talk they bossed the second half and pulled a goal back. They were knocking on the door for a deserved equaliser but a little lack of composure in the box let them down. They have a chance to make amends next Thursday evening as they return to Horley Town for the Surrey FA U18s Youth Floodlit Midweek County Cup.
The lads were looking set for a win on their visit to Sutton Common Rovers as after a goalless first half, including the hosts blazing a penalty way over the bar, they took the lead and were into the final fifteen minutes when they conceded a poor equaliser. They had chances for a second goal that might have seen them over the line but fired up by the equaliser the home side won a penalty that this time they converted to deny us even a point.
Our opposition first up is AFC Wisla Krakow who are in the same situation as us of yet to win a point but having been suffering heavy defeats that gives them a negative goal diffence over twice ours, and from two games less. Could our first home game be our first win? The cup game has seen next week's fixture against Collier's Wood United postponed so our next league game on Friday 28 November is a first meeting with the Metropolitan Police. Moving into December we have return fixtures starting with Corinthian Casuals followed by Chessington & Hook United.
Come along to Church Road over the next few weeks to give our U18s some support as they look to get some points on the board - and indeed why not come to Horley to cheer them on in the Cup.
