2nd Half onslaught secures another victory at The Lair, and a place in the next round of the Surrey Cup!

After a valiant effort on the weekend against a top side in Pagham who’d be looking towards promotion to the Bostik League come April/May; we host again midweek, this time Horley Town Reserves. Morgan Wilkins in goal, and Lorenzo Lewis both got their debuts for the 1st Team; whilst we introduced our new signing Ben Bacon up top too.

The whole game followed a common trend throughout. Lingers with lots and lots of possession and after a period of time started to carve out some real opportunities for Lewis and Bacon mainly. Lewis with best of the lot. With what could’ve been a 1st half that saw quite a few goals; it surprisingly stayed 0-0. However, was a very comfortable period for us. Very confident about coming out and getting the result; it was all about composing that final ball and end product. Connolly on for Fuller at halftime and a change in shape instantly took effect. Connolly got onto a blocked clearance by myself, rounded the keeper and tapped home. Bakhit made it 2 very quickly after a Bacon free-kick was parried into his path to smash home. Horley reacted straight away to this. Twiggy Johnston trying to dribble out the back like Messi, and oh it was very messy. He got robbed on the edge of his own box and punished by a very strong finish. Even though they’d scored, was only 2-1, we still had control of possession and the tempo of the game. A matter of time really. Bakhit got his 2nd of the game after I scuffed a shot back towards goal and after a few deflections, fell kindly for him to tap away and regain the 2 goal advantage. The game was signed, sealed, delivered when Bacon got his eventual goal, worked down the left from TJ Stead and squared for the new man to take a touch and bury. And it was Stead who finished the game off from a Wilford cross which was brought down in the box and fired away on his weaker foot. 5-1 and it finished that score.

Through to the next round which I believe will be the Quarter Final. Back to league action this Saturday as we travel to Loxwood searching to continue some strong recent form. A big thank you to all support that came out to watch, and we hope to see you all in full voice on Saturday!

A big thank you to Mike Moore for running our media system throughout the game and providing highlights and stats afterwards which can be found on DE Photo TV. A quality production!
