Match Preview

A positive week for the Lingers in which we hosted 2 league fixtures at the Lair since the best part of 11 months, a painful wait but it's good to be back.

Last Saturday we faced Loxwood who it's safe to say struggled in the league last year, however they had opened up with a narrow defeat away to Saltdean and then a dominant 4-1 victory over East Preston so it was never going to be easy. A first half brace from Rhys White put us in a commanding position at the interval and then a worldie from Loxwood's Luke Brodie made it a nervy last ten but we saw the game out. Our first 3 points on the board which were much needed if truth be told. An MOM performance from Rhys and if he can stay injury-free then will have a big season ahead of him.

Tuesday night saw us welcome our good friends Little Common to Godstone Road. LC are probably the team we have faced most over the last 4 years. Our record against them is quite good but we know they hold a threat especially from set-pieces. Fortunately for us, their main threat going forward Lewis Hole was suspended and other attacking players such as Jamie Crone, Sam Cruttwell and Wes Tate have all seemed to have moved on. We dominated the game for large parts and posed a threat going forward in the first half without managing to find the breakthrough. LC tightened things up defensively and got most of the team behind the ball and managed to secure the draw they came for.
A quick mention to Reece Anderson, a young left back who impressed on his debut and picked up MOM.

Today we welcome Forest Hill Park in the FA Vase. We were due to be playing away but we agreed to reverse the fixture when asked by FHP. Truth be told we don't know much about the opposition but expect a physically demanding game and one we should win.
