It was a strong start as we rushed out of the gate, creating several quick early chances. However, this enthusiasm would prove our undoing as we were caught on the counter and despite some solid attempts at clearing the danger, Mile Oak's number 6 took the ball down well and finished into the bottom corner for a 1-0 lead.
Stephen Smith was awarded a yellow card for his outrage at some of Mile Oak's dubiously physical play, and this proved crucial to the outcome of the match as just after half time he found himself sandwiched between two Mile Oak players and sent off for a high challenge, something many fans and players felt was questionable. Minutes later we were two down as a bit of clumsy defending allowed the away defender to bundle the ball over the line.
The Lingers remained unperturbed however and just ten minutes later found themselves with a way back into the game as an away defender handled the ball in the area and a penalty was awarded. Kerran Boylan stepped up and calmly buried in bottom right to half their lead. But barely five minutes later we were two behind again as the Mile Oak no. 9 found his way through once more for the third.
Substitutions were made and last ditch efforts put in but despite the hard work and great team play we couldn't quite pull it back in time. It was a valiant effort from the lads and we'll hope to take the more positive aspects of this performance forwards into our next few games.
