It took only eight minutes for a confident looking Lingfield side to grab the first goal of the night as Stephen Smith played in Kerran boylan for his third in two games. Another eight minutes in and the Lingers had two as Stephen Smith again set up Matthew Gates from a corner to poke home for a 2-0 lead.
Despite an extended period of Lingfield dominance it would be Sidlesham who struck next, as their number 8 turned from 30 yards out and hit an effort that just escaped the keepers reach and trickled in. The Lingers continued to look strong going into half time though, but the second half did not go as planned.
Ten minutes after the restart the away no. 8 struck again, tying the game at two goals apiece. A sequence of Lingfield injuries held play up for a while before the away side inexplicably took the lead with a nice finish to complete their comeback. The last ten minutes and the six minutes of added time saw wave after wave of Lingfield attacks but nothing could be made of them and the final whistle blew with Sidlesham still somehow clinging onto their lead.
