The 1st half started a bit hot potato, and no real possession was retained by either side, which in turn meant not many chances created either way. As the game settled more, both sides started to try and string a series of passes together and take a foothold in the game, the closest any side came were from long-range efforts over the bar. The more the half went on, the more the Lingers started to press on, and eventually a breakthrough a few moments before halftime, David Baker cuts in from right back just in Storrington's half, and crosses from deep with his left foot which passed through the first crowd of players and Rich Wetton was at the back post isolated to tap home, and saw the half out. 1-0 Lingers HT.
Lingfield got the 2nd half underway and started the half in more control than the first, possession was fairly even, maybe slightly edging it, however, Lingfield was becoming more and more territorially dominant. A few clear-cut chances for Lingfield went begging, and Storrington had one of their own at the back post; started to look like no one wanted to score... a few subs by both sides made and the game began to stretch as Storrington went for an equaliser committing more bodies, leaving room for the Lingers counter. And within the last 10 mins of the game, that's exactly what happened, Harry Sintim down the right stretching the Storrington back line to square across for Rich Wetton, in off both posts but still counts, his 2nd of the game, 2-0. Very similar 3rd and 4th goal as Sammy Clements clipped the ball over the high Storrington line for Ben Connolly and Nick Dembele to smash home respectively and confirm all 3Pts for the Lingers, Storrington got a consolation goal from some slack concentration defensively however not affecting the result. FT Storrington 1-4 Lingers
First, win of the season and a massive improvement from the week prior. We travel to Oakwood in the Cup midweek for a local derby and back in League action away at Mile Oak next Saturday.
