With the most convincing result in the last game on Tuesday against AFC Varndeanians, Lingfield hosted Midhurst & Easebourne in Friday Night Football at the Lair.
From the management to players, a quick start imperative, and a quick start we made! Just 90 seconds in, a corner from the left hit by Conor Wilford met by a flying David Graves, no stopping it, 1-0. Lingfield assumed total possession and patience with it, waiting for the opportunity to present itself and just before the hour mark the second goal as a loose cross fell to Richard Wetton who's initial shot came back to him then laid off to Sammy Clements to slot home via the underneath of the bar, 2-0. 2-0 can be a dangerous scoreline and Lingfield showed no sign of letting up, by only conceding the 1 shot all game. Before halftime it was 3, a battling Richard Wetton freed himself from the defender to get a shot away that pulled across the face of goal and Marco Mwanza was at hand at the back post to tap home, a comfortable start, 3-0. It finished that way, could've been more. HT A complacency attitude with the second half, and a sub at the break, Marco Mwanza picking up a knock and replaced by Stephen Hodge, making his debut. And it was he who made it 4-0, a Nick Dembele cross that got all the way through to the back post, 1 touch and finish for Hodge to make an impactful debut. It was 5 when a quick throw into Richard Wetton, he rolled the defender to open up space and completely wrong foot the keeper at his near post from 25 yards, quality finish. Hitting the post and carving a few chances could've seen Lingfield open the floodgates for a big number, however it finish that way, 5-0 FT. And an impressive start at home. Back to back clean sheets a big positive.
