After a convincing win down at Bexhill, we had a stiffer test in Ringmer. We previously hosted the Ringers at the Lair a few weeks back in which we won 2-1, a narrow victory. The Ringers would be looking for revenge in the return fixture, as well as not being beaten since then. Initial inspection was that the pitch was going to be a leveller, even though in itself was far from level! A tough surface but same for both sides.
A game of very few chances, and the game began with Lingfield in charge, dominating territorially. A scrappy affair, with the pitch not permitting any real football being played. However, due to some persistent pressure, a break through was found, worked down the left to find the box and Richard Wetton to turn and bully his way 1-on-1 and toe poke it past the on rushing goalkeeper, 1-0. That has got to be all to report in what was a very tedious first half, but a well worked lead playing up the hill first half. 1-0 HT
The second started brighter with more game management control of the ball, as difficult as it may have been. As the game wore on, the 1-0 lead became thinner and thinner as 1 goal changes the game. Nevertheless, Lingfield showed some resolute defending and didn't allow the Ringers in on goal, their No.9 was offside a good 36 times, and the best chance they conjured up was a debatable free kick on the edge of the box the was what we thought was struck quite pathetically by their No.10, who notably hasn't shook 1 Lingfield player or management in both games we've played! Not nice to see from a veteran of the game. The game did open up as Ringmer pushed on for an equaliser, and that only allowed us to counter and create a few half chances but no end product. He game was seen through well and professionally, 1-0 FT and the 6th win on the bounce, the last 2 away from home at some difficult grounds, and back to back clean sheets probably the biggest positive of the lot.
We return to the Lair midweek for the Peter Bentley cup as we host Broadbridge 'The Bears' Heath from the Prem Division above. 7.45pm KO, so come and show all your support which is greatly appreciated.
