We hosted Selsey in a 4th v 5th clash, with both sides looking to continue their pressure on those precious promotion spots.

Selsey a side with a very shrewd defensive record coming into the game having only conceding 9 goals so far; and with their most recent game ending in defeat, rectification their target for the day. Whereas we come into the game in big spirits, 7 wins in a row (6 in the league). Our latest triumph against a team from the league above. To note, El Capitan in David Graves was absent today, along with the likes of Ben Connolly, Alec Tuppen, and Dan Summers of whom got a slightly less exciting afternoon of going to watch Chelsea v Watford. To add, we'd like to send our best wishes to Dan Lilley as he makes a move to St Francis. To better news, we introduced Charlie Dodds and Dave Heaton back to the squad; both former captains here and extra quality to add to competition for places.

The afternoon didn't start in a manner we'd like, a slow warm up, resulted in a slow start... an essence of complacency. From what it looked like, Selsey had done their homework in regards to how we try to play and engaged a high press early. It rattled us! And credit due, Selsey went ahead after about 20 minutes from a free kick that was controversial in itself however, a good delivery from the right was lashed home at the front post by Jack Goulding; 0-1. It took up to the 30/35th minute in the game for Lingfield to start to shift the momentum of the game and start going at Selsey, beginning to string some productive passes together. The closest chance coming from a Conor Wilford direct free kick hitting the outside of the post. We couldn't find that elusive equaliser before the break, 0-1 HT.

A good cop, bad cop approach from management as Bobby C gave the hairdryer treatment before some consolidating words from Dixie D. Within the recent win record, Lingfield have yet to be losing in these games, therefore providing a test of character rather ham just quality. Lingfield began the 2nd half as they ended the 1st, on top. Driving Selsey back to the very perimeters of their own box and coming at them from all angles. Struggling to get Selsey, had things to think about when Lingfield got their equaliser 10mins into the half from a Conor Wilford corner, contested and won by Richard Wetton, scrambled over the line; 1-1. Lingfield didn't stop there, ball retention and constant pressure saw another goal. High press from Sammy Clements won the ball back and squared to Richard Wetton on the edge of the box, a couple touches to create his space and strike into the bottom left hand corner; 2-1. From here, Lingfield went into cruise control, upping the ball retention into real patient play through the midfield and back line, waiting for Selsey to open themselves up in the press. The first 20mins of the game seemed a long way in the past as Selsey began to look leggy and couldn't keep up their energy levels as Lingfield opened up a cushion via a driving Nick Dembele run saw a collision pop the ball out for Richard Wetton coming in to loop the ball over everyone and complete his first hat trick of the season and his 18th in all competitions; 3-1. The last 15mins saw Selsey chasing shadows and the game was seen out extremely comfortably; 3-1 FT.

A game of 2 halves most definitely; however deserving winners over the course of the game. We make it 8 on the spin in all comps, 7 in the league as we move up to 3rd with results going out way on the day, and another result, another statement for promotion. We host Ash Utd in the Surrey cup on Wednesday night at the Lair, 7.45pm Kick Off. Before returning to League action next Saturday as we travel down to Billingshurst.

A massive thanks for everyone's support during the game and around the club; greatly appreciated. Shout out to Mike Moore from DEphoto.TV for all the media support he gives.
