After a few games at Steyning Town, the Lair was again back open for business... another chance for Lingfield to maintain their impeccable home record. We welcomed back a couple familiar faces playing for Rangers in Dan Taylor and more recently Dan Lilley who captained the side. A few postponements elsewhere in the SCFL meaning we could try bridge a bigger gap beneath us. A very attacking move from management with the lineup.. 3 at the back with Dembele, Ransome, Summers and Wetton across the front line!
The first half saw Lingers play up the hill into the wind and was tough work, whilst both sides had opportunities to score, Rangers went closer when hitting the post and having one ruled out for offside. However a competitive first half... ended 0-0 at the break with Lingfield happier based on the direction in which they played. I must admit, a slightly smaller report as this game was one of the dullest games of the season; the pitch was difficult to play on with recent weather, the wind was right up, and only the 1 goal! Which came around 20mins from time as Dembele spun his way down the left-hand side and an inch-perfect cross for Ransome was headed over the keeper. A much more comfortable half for Lingfield in the 2nd period as Rangers began to find it hard to play up the hill, wind against... and was seen out at a pedestrian pace.
Despite the lack of Match of the Day style football, we did make it 5 wins in a row, back to back clean sheets and extended distance below to 10 points. So still plenty of form and momentum going into our Surrey Cup Quarter Final against Westfield on Wednesday night which is being played at Whyteleafe FC. A big thank you to all the turned out in the cold to watch and support! And we hope to see you down at church road on Wednesday!
