Following a royal treatment from Chichester, we returned home to host Shoreham in the League. We’d had already encountered the Musselmen once his year in the cup when we travelled successfully for a 2-1 victory.
Burnett in goal. Hodge, Fuller, Johnston and the returning Wilford across the back. Bakhit, Horn, Heaton, Myself, and Stead in midfield. And finally the first start for Joel Alexander after a few substitute appearances.
And it wasn’t long before he was in on the act, a few minutes in, TJ Stead’s ball across goal was met by the Keeper but fumbled out which Alexander pounced on and rolled home for an early lead. Throughout the first half, we controlled possession, territory, the dominance of chances and the complete tempo of the game. Shoreham really couldn’t find anything. Hodge, a constant threat down the right got beyond the fullback to pull back for Horn to put top bins. Great goal 2-0 just before the break.
Shoreham in the 2nd half came out with the intent to press extremely high and did stop us playing out on many occasions. But when we got through that initial press, we created a few chances. Both sides didn’t really craft much in the 2nd half. They had a 1 on 1 which was sliced wide from 18 yards. Connolly a few half chances, but that’s about it. Shoreham got 1 back very late on with a decent strike from 20 odd yards out. But was all too late as the game was seen out.. 2-1 FT.
Back to business for the Lingers. A good attitude all round to bounce back, and a rest from the league as we’ll be travelling to Hassocks in the Peter Bentley playing for a place in the Quarter Final next Saturday! A big thank you to all support in what was some pretty wet conditions!
On my behalf, the reports have lacked a bit of oomph as it were of recent. Just been a lack of time... but assure you to be back to my most detailed self again for the Hassocks game.
A big thank you to Mike Moore for running our media system throughout the game and providing highlights and stats afterwards which can be found on DE Photo TV. A quality production!
