LAfter an inspired win against Selsey last weekend, we had an inter-county test in Ash who have a heard a mixed start to their season and with out current 8 game win streak, and 100% home record still to maintain, Lingfield knew what it meant.
It was evident in the very first minute that Lingfield were up for it, a flick through from Nick Dembele saw Richard Wetton break down the left, and his squared cross saw Sammy Clements come on late to finish off 1-0. It was 2 on the half hour mark, Dan Summers found space on the edge of the box and elusively lobbed the keeper to only hit the inside of the post, rebounded by the sharp Richard Wetton. In full control of the tie, with Ash no real answers to Lingfield. It was 3 from a quick Richard Wetton free kick on he right hand side, seen and reacted quickest by Dan Summers across the front post and lashed home! The half was completed with a 4th late on, Dan Summers spinning and twisting the box for Richard Wetton to come and take it off his toes and curl in the bottom right hand corner, HT 4-0. As comfortable and fast start all season.
No letting up for Lingfield, restarting the half with possession and plenty of forward thinking moves for Ash to struggle stopping. It was 5 from a short free kick rather fortunately working its way back to Conor Wilford to in swing his cross met by Sammy Clements to head home, matching Wetton's brace for the evening. Nick Dembele's turn to get in on the act as he bagged 2 goals; firstly from a quality left footed 25 yard strike into the top right hand corner. Then late on as he drove into the Ash box to fire home from a tight angle through the GKs legs. 7-0. Of course it was Richard Wetton to see out proceedings, a Dan Summers free kick only parried by the GK for Wetton to react quickest again and complete his back to back hat tricks! 8-0 FT. And as assured of a performance as you can get!
That's 9 on the spin for Lingfield now and we look to make it 10 as we travel south to Billingnshurst who have made themselves tough to beat through the start of the season.
